Madhalam is a musical instrument in Kerala’s traditional art forms like Keli, Panchavadyam, Kathakali and Krishnanattam. It is a drum shaped instrument made up of wood of jackfruit tree with two sides for playing. The two round shaped portions are made by bullock skin and buffalo skin is used for making the strings. The instrument is played with hands by suspending it from the player's hip. Bachelor of Arts or B.A. in Madhalam is a three year graduate course with six semesters of study. This graduate course is designed to provide practical skills and theoretical knowledge in Madhalam and also helps to understand Kathakali Melam, Performing arts, Panchavadyam etc.
