Sanskrit is one of the oldest languages belonging to the Indo-Aryan branch of the Indo-European languages and this classical language is one of the twenty two official languages of India. Jyotisha is the oldest system of astrology; it is the traditional Hindu system of astrology, also known as Hindu astrology. It is derived from the Sanskrit word "jyoti" which means light. The methods, principles and theories of Jyotisha were written in Sanskrit. Bachelor of Arts or B.A. in Sanskrit – Jyotisha is a three year graduate course with six semesters of study. The aim of the course is to teach Sanskrit language and literature, and also to study and understand the various aspects of Jyotisha including, Grah, Rasi, Naksatra etc.
