Chenda is a cylindrical percussion instrument widely used in Kerala and in some other regions of South India. A Chenda is a cylindrical wooden drum; both the ends are covered with the "Chenda Vattam" usually made by the skin of cow. Usually the cylindrical part, the body of the chenda is made of the soft wood of jackfruit tree. This instrument is famous for its loud and rigid sound. It is played either by using the left hand and a specially made stick on the right hand or by using sticks in both hands. Master of Arts or M.A. in Chenda is a postgraduate program with two years of study. This course is designed to provide excellent practical skills and excellent theoretical knowledge to students and this will helps students to become an adept in Chenda and its performance.
