Kathakali is one of the most popular and oldest classical dance - drama form in India which is originated in Kerala. The word Kathakali literally means "Story-Play" and as the name implicate it is a storytelling form of art. This art form is distinguished by the elaborately distinctive make up of the participating characters, colorful costumes, face masks and soulful expressions. The beautiful make up and luxuriant costume of kathakali is known as kathakali vesham. Great importance is laid on the Vesham or make-up which is of five types - Pacha, Kathi, Thadi, Kari and Minukku. Master of Arts or M.A. in Kathakali Vesham is a postgraduate program with two years of study. This course is designed to provide excellent practical skills and excellent theoretical knowledge to students and this will help students to become an adept in Kathakali and its performance.
