Madhalam is a musical instrument in Kerala’s traditional art forms like Keli, Panchavadyam, Kathakali and Krishnanattam. It is a drum shaped instrument made up of wood of jackfruit tree with two sides for playing. The two round shaped portions are made by bullock skin and buffalo skin is used for making the strings. The instrument is played with hands by suspending it from the player's hip. M.A. Madhalam is a postgraduate program with two years of study. This course is designed to provide excellent practical skills and excellent theoretical knowledge to students and this will help students to become an adept in Madhalam and its performance.
