Master of Technology or M.Tech in Transportation Engineering is a two-year postgraduate civil engineering program divided into four semesters. This program deals with the various technical aspects of transportation systems with an emphasis of on road transportation. This course includes subjects like pavement analysis and design, transportation planning, road transport management and economics, highway traffic analysis and design, numerical methods and applied statistics. The design aspects of transport engineering include the sizing of transportation facilities, determining the materials and thickness used in pavement, designing the geometry of the roadway etc. This branch of civil engineering also involved the planning, design, operation, and maintenance of safe and efficient transportation systems. Transportation engineering teaches and provides knowledge in the application of technology and scientific principles to the planning, functional design, operation and management of facilities for any mode of transportation in order to provide the safe, rapid, comfortable, convenient, economical, and environmentally compatible movement of people and goods.
